Urolithin is a "gut metabolite" produced in the body by intestinal bacteria following the ingestion of ellagic acid, a polyphenol found in foods such as pomegranate.
However, whether or not the body can produce "urolithin A" through the consumption of foods such as pomegranate varies from person to person, depending on the individual's "gut flora." In fact, research has shown that only 53% of people are able to produce urolithin A.
